Nestled amongst green valleys and undulating hills, the Broga Sak Dato Temple sits majestically on a hill overlooking the fruit orchards – an hour journey from the city. The temple was built some 140 years ago and it has become a popular tourist attraction where visitors can take in the panoramic views of the mountain scenery.
The surrounding of the temple offers a peaceful ambience with beautiful landscaped gardens set against a mountain backdrop. With Chinese zodiacal animal statues and red ribbon wishes adorn the gardens, it feels very spiritual. This temple worships the famous mighty Monkey God – Sun WuKong – also known as the Monkey King, the legend from the 16th century Chinese classical novel Journey to the West.
The temple stands with antique artifacts and intricate carvings. The staircase will lead visitors to the ornamental arch called “The Dragon Gate”. The real highlight of this tour is to cross the suspension bridge to a hill on the other side and a climb a little further up where you will find a giant statue of the Sun Wukong standing tall above the trees, looking over and guarding the valley below.
