Set out this morning for a scenic drive past Lambir and turn off at Peninjau toward Bakong town. We will arrive at Bakong around 11:30am and stop over there a local lunch in the coffee shop. Continue on, after lunch, passing Lapok and Tinjar through the oil palm plantations to a river tributary called Sungai Ulap. From there, we will continue on longboat (one-hour river cruise) to Loagan Bunut. Arrive at Loagan Bunut around 1600hrs and check in into our local chalet perched on a hilltop overlooking the lake (owned by Meran called Mutiara Resort!). This evening, we will go for an orientation boat ride around the lake. You may try your hand at net fishing today in the lake! Dinner (fish, of course) and then overnight at the chalet. Today lunch and dinner will be included.
Very early morning rise, have some coffee, tea and biscuits and we will go on a sunrise bird watching cruise (0630 hrs) around the lake. Visit the ancient burial ground on the banks of the Sungai Bunan. This burial site, believed to be over 100yrs old, was the burial ground of one of the tribal Berawan chiefs. Return to the chalet and prepare for our departure from Loagan Bunut. We leave the lake on longboat (at 1000 hrs) for a one-hour river cruise to Long Teru to catch the express boat to Marudi. Express boat journey is around two hours where we will drop off at Marudi for a relaxing walk around Marudi town and light lunch before we continue on express boat back to Miri.
